The most anticipated actioner ‘Indian 2’ had received mixed reviews from the audiences and it can be also called as one of the most disappointing films of the year 2024.Latest updates say that Kamal Haasan and director Shankar could reportedly return to work on ‘Indian 3’ after the project’s progress remained unclear for some time. The film is expected to continue the story established by ‘Indian 2’, which ended with a cliffhanger.According to Sun News Tamil report, a major portion of ‘Indian 3’ was filmed alongside ‘Indian 2’. The upcoming instalment may therefore require only limited additional shooting. However, the project still has substantial computer graphics work left. Some patchwork is also reportedly pending before the film can move closer to completion. There has been no official announcement yet regarding the next shooting schedule or the project’s release plans.
‘Indian 3’ reportedly has limited shooting remaining
The production of ‘Indian 3’ was reportedly carried out alongside ‘Indian 2’. This means a sizeable portion of the sequel has already been filmed.According to the latest report from Sun News Tamil , only certain patchwork portions may need to be completed through additional shooting. The bigger task could now involve the extensive computer graphics work required for the project. The reported development could allow the makers to resume the post-production process soon. However, the team has not officially confirmed when work will restart.
‘Indian 2’ left Senapathi’s story open
Kamal Haasan and Shankar reunited for ‘Indian 2’, bringing back the character Senapathi, also known as Indian Thatha. The sequel followed the veteran vigilante as he returned to confront corruption. The story began after a group of idealistic youngsters attracted Senapathi’s attention to wrongdoing around them. His response was to encourage people to begin the fight against corruption within their own homes.The film ended without completely closing Senapathi’s journey. This created an opening for the story to continue through ‘Indian 3’.
Shankar revisits Senapathi in a changing India
The ‘Indian’ franchise has been built around Senapathi’s fight against corruption. However, the circumstances surrounding the character have changed considerably since the original film. The first ‘Indian’ arrived when India was nearing 50 years of independence. The country was also moving towards a liberalised economic system. ‘Indian 2’ received a mixed response after its theatrical release. ETimes awarded the film two stars out of five and raised concerns about its writing, characterisation and emotional impact.The ETimes review read, “The problem with Indian 2 is that it is filled with writing that lacks nuance and characters who are caricatures. Even in terms of scenes, all the visual excesses that Shankar throws at them – grand sets, visual effects, and frames filled with people – hardly touch us as there’s no emotional connect. In the original, everything was tied to Senapathi’s personal struggles. Here, his crusade feels empty, and more importantly, the character’s dignity goes for a toss. We begin to question why he decides to fight now after remaining silent over the corruption that has spread and metamorphosised into something monstrous during all these years.”Meanwhile, several audiences had praised the concluding portions of ‘Indian 2’ which hinted at the third part. So, the hopes are high for ‘Indian 3’.
