Want to Attract More Money? Feng Shui Says Start With This One Corner of Your Home
Many households keep the wealth corner of their home as a dumping ground without realising it. Old newspapers pile up there. A broken chair waits for repairs that never come. In feng shui, the Chinese practice of arranging space, this spot is treated with care. It is linked with income, savings and opportunities, and its condition is believed to reflect how money flows through the house.
How to Find the Money Corner
There are two main ways to locate it, from different schools of feng shui. The first is the Bagua map method, popular in Western feng shui. Stand at the main door, facing into the home. The far left corner from that point is the wealth area. The same rule can be applied to a single room, such as a bedroom or a study. The second is the compass method from classical feng shui. Here, the wealth area sits in the home’s southeast, no matter where the door is. A phone compass app placed at the centre of the house helps find it.Both methods are widely followed. When they point to different corners, some people value both spots.Indian Vastu Shastra, by comparison, links the north direction with Kubera, the god of wealth. Homes that follow both systems often keep the north and the southeast clean and well lit.
What the Wealth Corner Needs
In feng shui, the wealth area belongs to the wood element. Wood stands for growth, and growth is the idea behind building money over time.Healthy green plants suit this corner well. The jade plant and the money plant are common choices in Indian homes. The leaves should be round and soft. Keep watering regular, because a drooping plant sends the opposite signal.Colours linked with this area are deep purple and green, with touches of gold. A cushion cover, a small rug or a painted wall in one of these shades is enough. You don’t need to repaint the whole room.Water feeds wood in the feng shui element cycle. So a small fountain with clean, moving water is often placed here. The water should flow toward the inside of the room, not toward the door.Light matters too. A dark corner is believed to slow progress. A lamp switched on for a few hours each evening is a simple fix.
What to Keep Out of the Money Corner
Clutter tops the list. Stacks of unread bills or boxes of unused items are believed to block fresh energy. Clearing this one spot is the first step most feng shui consultants suggest.Dustbins should never sit here. The symbolism is direct: money ends up being thrown away.Broken objects come next. A clock that has stopped, a cracked vase or a lamp with a fused bulb all signal stagnation. Repair them or remove them.Dried flowers and dying plants are also avoided. Keep thorny plants like cacti elsewhere, since their sharp spines are thought to create friction.Too much metal can weaken the wood element. Place a heavy steel cupboard or a large collection of metal decor elsewhere in the home.Images of empty spaces or sad scenes don’t suit this area either. A painting of a dry riverbed sends the wrong message. Choose pictures of flowing water or green landscapes instead.
When the Corner Is a Bathroom or Kitchen
Sometimes the money corner falls in a bathroom. Feng shui treats this as a drain on wealth. The usual remedy is to keep the toilet lid closed and the bathroom door shut. A green plant inside helps, and fixing any dripping tap quickly matters. If the kitchen falls in this area, the stove’s fire element can drain wood. Adding a few green touches, like a plant on the windowsill, helps restore the balance.
