Brisbane 2032 Olympic logo leaked by Games’ own YouTube channel days before official reveal | Off the field News
The Brisbane 2032 Olympics organising committee’s planned logo reveal was thrown off schedule after its own YouTube channel accidentally leaked the Olympic and Paralympic emblems three days before their official unveiling.Parts of the designs had already been shown this week as part of a teaser campaign across Queensland, with the complete logos due to be revealed on Monday. However, the official Brisbane 2032 YouTube account uploaded an “emblem explainer” video on Friday ahead of schedule. The video showed the full logos in the top-right corner, while its description included details about the inspiration behind the designs. The committee then posted pictures of the logos on social media on Saturday, writing: “Consider this your official reveal.”“Inspired by our reef, beaches, hinterland and everything in between, they bring together the places, people and spirit that will take us to 2032.”Brisbane 2032 officials also held a media conference on Saturday to address the accidental release of the Olympic and Paralympic emblems three days before the planned unveiling.Government official Tim Mander and Brisbane 2032 chief marketing officer Brent Hill suggested that the leak had turned into a positive development.“This is the culmination of a really exciting week,” said Mander, the Olympic and Paralymic minister. “This is an incredibly exciting milestone as we head to 2032.”Hill said the committee had decided to make the most of the unexpected release, adding: “the publicity has been incredible.”The Olympic emblem features a pink cockatoo, an inland Australian bird, with its colour designed to resemble an Olympic and Paralympic flame. The Olympic and Paralympic emblems feature a pink cockatoo and a sulphur-crested cockatoo respectively. Both were visible in the top-right corner of the YouTube video, with the video’s description explaining the inspiration behind the designs.Hill admitted that the Games committee would have preferred the logos to be unveiled as planned.“If we had our time over, maybe there’s different ways we could have done it,” he said, adding that there was more to come at Monday’s official unveiling.
