NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh police on Monday registered a case against a American national -named Jordan Brown- after he was apprehended for entering Nepal without proper authorisation or valid documents, officials told news agency ANI.According to officials, a case has been registered against him at the Sonauli Police Station under Sections 21/23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act for entering India without valid documents.What we know so far
- According to Additional SP (Maharajganj) Siddharth, Brown was spotted near the Sonauli border by security personnel during a routine patrol. When asked to stop, he allegedly tried to flee but was overpowered and taken into custody.
- Officials found that Brown was not carrying a passport, visa or any other identity document at the time of his detention.
- “On July 11, the SSB apprehended an individual near Sonauli for attempting to enter Nepal without authorisation,” Additional SP said.
- “During questioning, he (Brown) revealed that he had travelled to Thailand on a tourist visa, where he lost his passport. He subsequently reached Sri Lanka via a sea route and arrived in India from there by sea on November 2, 2025. Since then, he had been residing in Goa. He was attempting to travel to Nepal when the SSB apprehended him,” he added.
- He also told officials that he had travelled to Bali, Indonesia, in May before returning to India, and had spent nearly two months in the country without carrying his passport.
- SHO Mahendra Mishra said Brown identified himself as a native of California and claimed to have travelled to 70 countries.
- Brown further claimed he studied at the University of California and served in the US Navy and Special Forces for six years before leaving the military around two years ago.
- He told police that he arrived in Goa from the United States about two months ago, stayed there for nearly six weeks, and then travelled to Bengaluru.
- From Bengaluru, Brown claimed he boarded a bus to Lucknow on July 8, continued to Gorakhpur, and later hired a taxi to reach the Sonauli border.
- He alleged that an acquaintance in Bengaluru was in possession of his passport. However, officials said he failed to provide complete addresses or verifiable details about the person.
- Brown also claimed he met an Indian woman from Uttarakhand in Italy three years ago and married her in October 2024. According to him, she works as a yoga instructor.
